The story of
Life Is Sound
About James, Founder of Life Is Sound
I’m James Mayer, a music producer, sound practitioner, and certified NLP coach with over two decades of experience in music and audio.
What drives me is simple. Helping people. Whether it’s guiding someone into deep relaxation through sound, having conversations that spark something real, or offering mindset shifts that create lasting change, I’m here to support growth.
I’m also constantly exploring new aspects of myself, welcoming change, embracing challenge, and seeking deeper understanding. I believe life is something we can consciously shape, and I’m always refining what the best version of my life looks and feels like.
My own journey began in 2011 when I found myself asking deeper questions about who I was and what life really meant. That search opened the door to a spiritual path I’ve been walking ever since.
One of the things I value most is the balance between logic and spirit. I like to apply the structure and insight of tools like NLP to a deeper, rooted spiritual perspective, and let those two worlds work together.
Life Is Sound is where music, personal transformation, and storytelling come together. Through every event, conversation, and creation, the mission is to help you relax, reconnect, and gain clarity. Not just in the moment, but in your life.
The Life Is Sound Journey
Life Is Sound started as a podcast in 2022, inspired by my father’s mental health breakdown and my desire to open up real, honest conversations. At that point, I had already been training in NLP for around eight years, and I had come to understand how powerful language can be as a tool for transformation.
By sharing people’s stories, I began to see how we often find the answers to our own path through the journeys of others. I realised the importance of not just listening, but helping guide people to tell their stories in a way that revealed the tools, insights, and inner strength they used to move through their challenges. These moments became a mirror for the listeners, offering a way to reflect, heal, and grow through shared experience.
During that time, I also witnessed how the public health care system had such limited resources when it came to treating mental health, especially around emotional support and mindset. That experience, combined with my father’s own struggles, sparked something in me. I knew I had to create something that gave people a space to feel seen, heard, and understood, and so the Life Is Sound podcast was born.
In 2023, Life Is Sound expanded in a way I could never have predicted, inspired by a deeply personal experience that changed everything. At the time, life had become quite busy, and I decided to take a short break from the podcast to invest in new equipment and elevate the production to a new standard.
During that pause, my grandmother became seriously unwell, and our family was told she was on her deathbed. Trusting my instincts, I brought my handpan to her bedside and played for her every evening for a week. Slowly, she began to recover. When she eventually returned home, she told us that the music had played a major role in her healingand overall wellbeing.
That experience was a profound life lesson for me. It reminded me that we each have a greater purpose, a role to play in supporting others and building something meaningful in the world. Even though these moments were deeply challenging, they taught me that we are capable of alchemy. We can take life’s pain and turn it into power. We can transform the hardest chapters into something beautiful, healing, and deeply human.
Out of this experience, the Life Is Sound Relaxation Society was born. It is a space where I now host sound bath eventsdesigned to bring deep relaxation, emotional release, and restoration to others.
Life Is Sound is now a core pillar in my life. I feel an immense sense of joy, purpose, and excitement every time I step into a space to deliver these offerings. Whether I am holding space at a live event or creating content that supports your journey from afar, I feel deeply aligned with the work. To hold space. To guide. To share tools that truly have the power to help you on your journey, whatever chapter you are walking through.
Why Sound and Conversation Matter
I believe in the power of both sound and conversation to transform lives.
Sound helps us relax, reset, and heal. It works on a subconscious level, calming the nervous system and bringing the body back into balance. But sound is more than just tones or instruments. Words themselves are sound. Every word we speak carries a vibration. A frequency. Words can uplift or diminish, soothe or agitate. They are, in essence, sound vibrations shaped by intention.
When we speak with presence and clarity, we have the power to create change. When we listen with openness, we unlock understanding. And when we combine sound and story, we create space for real transformation.
Conversation helps us expand. It challenges our beliefs, reframes our mindset, and opens doors within us. It encourages reflection and growth, revealing the parts of ourselves we have forgotten or neglected. It gives us new language for what we are feeling, and new perspectives on what is possible.
By blending sound and conversation, Life Is Sound offers a space to reconnect, reflect, and move forward with clarity and calm.
